About Us
The Buffalo Back Consumers Federation (BBCF) is a not-for-profit collective that brings together consumers committed to building fairer, healthier, and more ecologically responsible food systems. Rooted in principles of equity and sustainability, BBCF creates pathways for everyday people to engage with the source of their food and the communities behind them.
As a campaigning and public engagement platform, BBCF promotes alternatives to industrial food systems through experiences such as:
Kai Thota – a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) initiative supporting peri urban small farmers that enables consumers to grow their own food or support farmers directly
Dakshina Pete – a ward level community farmers’ market model focused on local, seasonal, plastic-free, and ethical consumption to promote climate resilient consumption in urban spaces.
Community enterprises – such as the Ragihalli Bakery and Women’s Federation,
which produce artisanal foods and crafts rooted in traditional knowledge and sustainable by default
Ootada Aata is BBCF’s campaign to celebrate the rich diversity of Indian foods by
bringing attention to grains, snacks, and culinary traditions that often remain outside mainstream supply chains
BBCF also serves as the secretariat of the PGS Organic Council (PGSOC), supporting national efforts to strengthen Participatory Guarantee Systems (PGS) as an inclusive, community-driven organic certification model suitable for small and marginal farmers and consumers who choose to buy from trusted and transparent sources.
Recognizing that most consumers are not indifferent but simply overwhelmed by the pace of modern life, BBCF seeks to inspire thoughtful choices—without guilt or fear, but through connection, learning, and shared action.
